*Actual Note From The Production Team From an Asian Based Game Company
"The character below didn't test well in surveys sent to the European and American markets.
Please provide more than one aspect of the character you would like to modify. The modification should be to bring the character more in line with the existing theme/worldview or to make the character more palatable to European and American aesthetics."
Original Design
1) She looks like a model posing as a “fighter” and not an attractive fighter. Her look presently makes it seem like she is too soft to want to fight and would be worried about messing her hair up or breaking a nail, instead of winning a fight. She doesn’t look badass enough.
2) Her outfit looks too “futuristic-primitive”, meaning, that the green color of the cloth doesn’t look like it came from the prehistoric era, she also looks like she is wearing a designer bikini, and not something made of animal leather she made herself. The shape of the bikini is too clean, it doesn’t look like it was cut using sharpened fangs or stone to cut it.
My Narrative Designer Solutions:
- Make her more primal, more warrior, and more Viking-esc.
My Modification Visual Design Notes:
ATTACKS:
Attack 1: Hunter’s Blade
- She charges an enemy and slashes with her Hunter’s Blade.
- She flings the rope dart at an enemy causing large (sometimes lethal) damage.
Attack 3: Warrior’s Spirit
- She spins the Rope Dart above her head and throws it in an arching pattern toward a group of enemies, causing multiple damages.
DEFENSES:
Defense 1: Warrior’s Pride
- She crosses her arms in an “X” shape and lets her sabretooth fangs take most of the damage.
Defense 1: Circle of Life
- She spins the Rope Dart in a tight circle in front of herself deflecting the brunt of the attack.
Character Bios:
ZARA THE HUNTER
Age: 24
Personality: Courageous and unnerving.
Occupation: Hunter
In-Game Bio:
Age: 24
Zara comes from a fierce female warrior tribe from one of the original civilizations of the continent now known as the Americas.
Backstory:
Zara was born to a warrior mother and father of unknown origins, under the glow of a full moon.
For as long as she can remember, all she knew were the ways of the warrior. Discipline. Unity. Fearlessness. Courage. These values were instilled in Zara early on through training, hunting, wars, and personal tragedies. During this time, Zara learned to hide her emotions, fear, anger, and sorrow, for they were weaknesses and weapons an enemy could use against her.
Beneath Zara’s stoic warrior mindset beats the heart of a woman who is loyal, caring, nurturing, and destined for greatness.
Zara’s first test came when she was just a child. Barely able to lift a spear, let alone wield it in combat, she was sent out of her village and forbidden to return without meat to feed the tribe. This survival rite of passage was how the tribe separated the weak from the future warriors who would defend the tribe from outsiders.
The midnight air chilled Zara to the bone as she took shelter under a bush near the riverbed, hoping to wake up before dusk and catch an unsuspecting animal as they took their morning drink of water.
That night, Zara dreamed of a far-off land, where people from tribes all over the land had gathered, to live together, and fend off the darkness, and the demons within.
Zara woke suddenly from her dream and saw a giant Sabretooth Leopard stalking her from across the riverbed. Zara quickly grabbed her spear and sprung up just as the giant Sabretooth Leopard pounced toward her. Their eyes locked in a split instance as Zara dug her heels into the ground, bracing for the incoming impact, as the giant Sabretooth Leopard impaled itself on the tip of Zara’s spear.
Shocked, tired, and scared, Zara dragged that giant Sabretooth Leopard back to her tribe, where they welcomed her with open arms. The tribe sang warrior chants and danced, as the beast was carved up for clothing, and weapons, and the meat served as a celebration of Zara’s new womanhood.
