Assassin's Creed: Odyssey | Euboea - Agapios (Quest) | Death and Taxes | AAA Dialogue Sample

EXT. CHALCIS CITY

We meet Agapios for the first time as he's arguing with the dock master who is in charge of seizing items. The area is in full lockdown, with nobody going in and out, except guards. Agapios is talking with the dock master (who he's worked with before), but is getting nowhere. He typically makes deals with this guy (greases his pocket) but this is out of his hands.

This AMB dialogue comes in when the player comes within a radius of the Quest Giver (Agapios). The area is a hustle-bustle port, and items are being shipped in and out, and there is a large crowd.

CIVILIAN

(#serious)

The warehouse is off-limits.

AGAPIOS

(#frustrated)

But I need those records!

CIVILIAN

(#annoyed)

And I need three fewer daughters, but we don't all get what we want, old friend.

GAMEPLAY DIALOGUE - AGAPIOS

KASSANDRA

(#inquiring)

What's going on?

AGAPIOS

(#confused)

I came to check the warehouse's taxation records, but I'm being refused entry.

CIVILIAN

(#serious)

This matter is out of my hands.

//Agapios sighs - he's frustrated that getting anything done in Euboea seems to require bribery.

AGAPIOS

(#annoyed)

Fine, the wheels of Euboea will be greased once more. How many drachmae will it cost to get me the records?

CIVILIAN

(#grim)

Unfortunately, that's not going to work this time, Agapios. The guards are under strict orders to not let anyone in or out of the warehouse. It's an order they will enforce, my friend.

//Agapios throws out a single laugh as if to say "That's absurd!"

AGAPIOS

(#incredulous)

Who's order?

CIVILIAN stands firm. He's not smiling. He's deadly-fucking-serious.

AGAPIOS

(#shocked)

...Yours?

AGAPIOS

(#disgusted)

Then it seems corruption has buried its roots deeper than I knew.

CIVILIAN

(#serious)

Take my advice. Stay away from that warehouse.

//Only Kassandra and Agapios are in the scene now.

KASSANDRA

(#inquiring)

It's lucky your "friend" warned you.

AGAPIOS

(#grim @KASSANDRA)

Hah. He's just as corrupt as the rest of Euboea. I fear there are not enough honest people left in this world.

ROLEPLAY HUB

[Aggressive] I would never work for free.

KASSANDRA

(#serious)

I would rather die than be a slave. Being owned by another and working for free. That's not me.

AGAPIOS

(#serious)

Where I come from we don't have that option. It's only either a life of slavery or a life of uncertainty.

[Friendly] You do what you have to do.

KASSANDRA

(#friendly)

We do what we have to do to survive.

AGAPIOS

(#serious)

Exactly. I don't blame my father for selling me into slavery, it's what he had to do. Plus, it got me out of my old life and gave me a chance at a better one.

@goto

ROLEPPLAY HUB END

AGAPIOS

(#serious)

Nobody chooses to be a slave. But, being a slave gives me food, shelter, safety, and security. Before this I- well... I had less.

KASSANDRA

(#curious)

Tell me more about the Black Market.

AGAPIOS

(#goading)

My master will tell you all about them, and how we might finally stop them... if stopping an evil organization and saving an entire nation sounds like something you'd be interested in?

QUEST ACCEPT HUB

[Accept] I'll do this for you.

KASSANDRA

(#serious)

Consider it done.

AGAPIOS

(#serious)

I knew I could count on you. Is there anything else you need to know?

[Decline] You're on your own.

KASSANDRA

(#serious)

Taxation records don't concern me, you're on your own.

AGAPIOS

(#disappointed)

I can't do this alone. See me again if you change your mind and want to earn some drachmae.

QUESTION HUB 1

Where can I find the records?

KASSANDRA

(#inquiring)

Where can I find the records you're looking for?

AGAPIOS

(#explaining)

I'll need a lot of evidence to find the man behind the black market - one set of records won't be enough. Try by the Warehouse Docks, inside the Warehouse itself, and the Guard Captain. Anything important, he'll have.

I have enough information.

KASSANDRA

(#serious)

I'll find what you need - the guards don't stand a chance.

AGAPIOS

(#serious)

You may be a misthios, but you don't need to be a murderer - there's always another way to solve a problem. I'll wait here for the records.

RECORDS FIND CAPPER

//Kassandra hands over the records (three) and Agapios, takes them from Kassandra's hand.

AGAPIOS

(#happy)

My master will be pleased.

//Agapios puts them away. Kassandra IS STUNNED.

KASSANDRA

(#shocked)

You're a slave?!

AGAPIOS

(#sarcastic)

Oh, did I leave my shackles in my prison cell again?

AGAPIOS

(#offended)

Do I not look as you expect? Yes, misthios, I am a slave - but I am not without dignity, and I am not without respect.

AGAPIOS

(#serious)

The local magistrate is my master, and I am his most trusted servant.
